The surrogacy journey typically takes 12 to 18 months from first application to delivery. Here's exactly what that time looks like.

Part 1: Getting to Know You

Congratulations on beginning your journey with xBaby! You might be wondering...where do I start?

Step 1:
Intake and Application

Complete a short intake form covering the basics — age, state, health history, and previous pregnancies
If you’re a good fit, move to the full application: ID, medical records, employment details, and insurance info
Build your surrogate profile — your personality, values, and what brought you here — this is what intended parents see
Your case manager schedules a call to discuss your preferences before matching begins

Step 2:
Screening

Sign a few standard documents: HIPAA release, agency agreement, and background check authorization
A standard background check is completed on your behalf
Medical records are reviewed to confirm you meet the health guidelines to move forward

Step 3:
Matching

Your profile is shared with domestic and international intended parents actively searching
When there’s interest, you see their profile first
A video call is scheduled so both sides can ask questions and get a feel for each other
If it’s right for everyone, the match is confirmed. If not, we keep looking.

Part 2: The Perfect Match

You’ve met the perfect intended parent(s) for you who are just as excited for this journey! Now what?

Step 4:
Medical Review

Your records are submitted to the fertility clinic for review (typically 2–4 weeks)
You’ll complete a psychological evaluation with a licensed professional
A $250,000 life insurance policy is secured on your behalf, covering you from screening through embryo transfer

Step 5:
Medical Clearance

Travel to the fertility clinic for in-person screening — physical exam, bloodwork, and uterine evaluation
xBaby covers all travel costs; a companion can come with you, expenses covered too
Once the clinic approves, you’re officially medically cleared

Step 6:
Legal Review

Your health insurance is reviewed for surrogacy coverage — if it isn’t included, xBaby arranges the right plan
You choose your own reproductive law attorney who represents you, and only you
The surrogacy contract is reviewed line by line with your attorney until you’re fully comfortable

Step 7:
Legal Clearance

All parties sign the finalized contract and a legal clearance letter is issued to the clinic
A $750,000 life insurance policy is secured, with an 18-month coverage period

Part 3: Carrying the Dream

Now’s the really exciting part! You’re carrying a baby and making a family’s dream happen.

Step 8:
Embryo Transfer

Injection medication begins about two weeks before the transfer
Travel to the clinic for the procedure — typically a 2–4 day trip, fully coordinated and covered by xBaby
A companion can join you, with their travel covered too

Step 9-10:
Pregnancy Care

Pregnancy confirmed through bloodwork and an ultrasound at 6–8 weeks
Continue care with a local IVF monitoring clinic through weeks 10–12
Routine care throughout the pregnancy transfers to a local OB — xBaby helps coordinate a provider near you

Step 11:
Delivery

Delivery happens at a hospital near you — bring whoever you want for support
The intended parents and/or an xBaby team member will be there
Hospital staff and your OB care for you throughout labor and after birth

After
Delivery

Lost wages covered for 4 weeks (vaginal) or 6 weeks (C-section) with a physician’s order
Six months of mental health counseling, fully covered
Escrow stays open 12 months for any outstanding medical bills
Ongoing access to the xBaby surrogate community
